New Delhi: Traffic has come to a halt at the Delhi-UP border after police put up barricades to stop Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi, and the Congress delegation from visiting the violence-hit Sambhal district in Uttar Pradesh. Among the chants of “Rahul Gandhi Zindabad” by Congress workers, one of them talked to Timeline.
When asked about the police preventing the Congress leader from visiting Sambhal, a party worker said, “Rajneeti ka matlab hota hai sewa, logo ke liye chalna, muddo ko uthana. If Rahul Gandhi ji wants to go to Sambhal to meet the families affected by the violence, to evaluate and understand the situation in the district, why is the government scared of it? (Politics means to serve, to work for the people, to raise their issues.)”

Highlighting that Rahul Gandhi is not someone from Indonesia or Australia but the Leader of the Opposition of India, the party worker said that the ruling government accuses the opposition of raising baseless allegations, but when Gandhi wishes to visit the violence-torn region, the government is scared and running away.
He called the UP government, led by CM Yogi Adityanath, “cowardly.”
The party worker further told Timeline that the BJP-led central government could have allowed Rahul Gandhi to visit the UP district all by himself, but “they [the central government] are deliberately trying to create such a situation, and they don’t want the Leader of Opposition and the general public to know the real situation of Sambhal.”
When asked what the political party plans to do if they are not allowed to pass through, the Congress worker said, “Do you remember Hathras? We went there. You remember Priyanka Gandhi’s Lakhimpur visit, her Umba visit in Mirzapur? We went there, didn’t we? No one can stop us.”
Reaffirming their will to visit Sambhal, the party worker said, “We will definitely go there. We will be the voice of those affected, and we will bring light to the common man’s problems.”
