As Wayanad rescue operations near its end, local residents expressed their gratitude to the Indian Army for their bravery and valour in rescuing countless landslide victims.

Wayanad Gives Emotional Farewell To Indian Army After Rescue Operations

After ten days of conducting rescue operations in the landslide-struck Wayanad, chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Indian Army Ki Jai’ resounded in the air as residents bid adieu to the Indian Army personnel in a heartwarming gesture. The deadly landslides have killed over 400 people, with nearly 138 suspected to be still missing.

In a video posted by the Kochi Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO), the smiling soldiers can be seen shaking hands with rows of locals gathered. With ‘Vande Maataram’ playing in the background, the crowd applauded for the army personnel, also accompanied by their canine units, as they left their accommodation, Mount Tabor School.

“Emotional send-off to Indian Army personnel from people of all walks of life at Wayanad. Grateful for our brave heroes who risked everything during the landslide Rescue Ops. Your courage & sacrifice won’t be forgotten…” tweeted the Kochi Defence PRO.

Soldiers of the 122 Infantry Battalion of the Territorial Army were also felicitated by the teachers and staff of the school.

Another video posted by them shows locals giving a warm and huge hug to an army soldier as they bid adieu to them.

Over thousands of people have been rescued by several rescue agencies, including the Army and Navy, over the span of ten days. Amidst the chaos and devastating loss, people across the globe have expressed their solidarity by contributing to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) to help the survivors of the landslides rehabilitate. Many people have come forward as volunteers to help in rescue efforts for the people of Wayanad.
