After Massive Landslide, Earthquake In Wayanad?

Low intensity earthquake has been reported in several regions of district of Wayanad in Kerala. The locals in the region informed that they have heard a loud sound after 10 o’ clock in the morning. The incident has been reported in the Nenmani village.

The officials have declared holiday for the schools in the area. As per the Onmanorama report, the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) has issued an update stating that there is no indication of any movement according to seismic records. The evacuation is underway at some of the wards at Nenmani gram panchayat.

”Regarding the sound heard in Wayanad Pozhuthana region, we are examining seismic records and also attempting local reconnaissance to find if anything is anomalous,” SEOC stated.

According to the initial information from Kerala government, residents of Anappara, Thazhthuvayalil, Pinangodu and Nenmani village felt the vibrations. The National Centre for Seismology has not detected any significant tremor in Wayanad. An official has said “a normal shifting of landmass” might have triggered tremors. “It could be a localised phenomenon,” he said.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s Office said Revenue department has started evacuating the residents from the region.

The CMO identified the localities as Regional Agricultural Research Station at Ambalavayal, Mankombu, Nenmeni, Ambukuthi Malika, Padiparambu, Sugandhagiri, Seetukunnu in Achooran village, Karattupadi in Vengapalli village, Myladipadi, Cholappuram and Thekkumthora.
