After Budget Session, Karnataka Congress MP Demands Separate Country For South

Sparking a fresh controversy over the recently presented interim Budget by the Union Finance Minister, Congress MP DK Suresh demanded a separate country for the South while accusing the central government of depriving the South of its share of funds for development. He alleged that South India has been served injustice as the developmental funds that were supposed to reach the South are redirected to North India.

“If we don”t condemn this in the upcoming days, we will have to place a demand for a separate country as a result of the situation the Hindi-speaking region has forced on us,” said Congress MP. He also demanded the due share that is not getting from the central government “We want to receive our money. Whether it is the GST, Customs or Direct taxes, we want to receive our rightful share.” He further claimed that the share of the South is being distributed in North India. Mr Suresh was speaking to reporters after the budget session of the parliament.

However, many the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders reacted to the Congress MP”s comment. BJP MP Tejasvi Surya reacted to the Congress MP”s remark saying that the Congress party has a history of divide and rule and that Mr Tejasvi is doing the same. He also took a dig at the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, saying that while the Rahul Gandhi is trying to unite people through the Bharat Jodo Yatra, “these people are talking about diving North India And South India,” the BJP Karnataka MP said referring to the remark of the Congress MP from the state.

Among other BJP leaders who reacted to Mr Suresh”s comment, Union Minister Rajiv Chandrasekhar also attacked the Congress MP terming it “divisive politics.” However, it is not the first time the South-North debate come to the fore. A Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) minister EV Velu in August 2023 had called for the creation of Dravida Nadu for “the benefit of South Indians.” He then faced severe criticism from across the political parties
