The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first candidate list on Saturday. In the first list, the saffron party has fielded Ramvir Singh Bidhuri as its candidate for the South Delhi. 

The first announced list consists of 195 candidates. Ramvir Singh, MLA from Badarpur (assembly constituency) was elected thrice for the legislative assembly of Delhi. He was part of the first, third, and fifth legislative assembly. Ramvir also serves as the opposition leader in Delhi.

He started his political career in 1970 by joining the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) of Delhi University. Ramvir Singh won the election in 1993 as the Janata Dal candidate from the Badarpur constituency. Being a party hopper, he later joined the Nationalist Congress Party and won the election in 2003 from the same seat. Ramvir has now settled in the BJP. 

After joining the saffron party, he contested the election in 2013 and 2020 and won the Badarpur seat. In the last assembly election, Ramvir won against the AAP candidate by securing 90,082 votes. However, Ramvir has been with different political parties at different points of time. 

Before contesting the election, from 1981 to 1985 he was the chairman of Haryana Warehousing Corporation with the rank of Cabinet minister. During his tenure, the corporation doubled its storage capacity, and its profits increased by 13 times.

Being an effective legislator, he was awarded “Best MLA” in 2008 by the late Sh Somnath Chatterjee, the then speaker of the Lok Sabha. In 2013, Ramvir became a member of the National Executive of the Bharatiya Janata Party. 

In the years 2013 and 2014, he effectively made use of the MLA Local Area Development Fund and was top-ranked for carrying out developmental works in his constituency.
