Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s women’s cricket team is setting up for the Women’s Asia Cup against arch rival Pakistan in Dambulla on Friday. The tournament will be held by Sri Lanka in the T20 format this year. The tournament will serve as a crucial element for the Indian team’s preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will in Bangladesh later this year.

In a press conference held before the tournament started off, Kaur, who is known for her aggressive captaincy and straightforward behaviour, stated that the tournament was important for India as she will lead India to its seventh title, a record in itself.

While answering questions, one of the reporters asked her if people were losing their interest with women’s cricket. The reporter observed that there were “less journalists appeared on the press conferences, what is your opinion?”

Giving a befitting reply, the no-nonsense captain said, “Well, that’s none of my business, you guys have to come and cover us.”

With a controversial history with the Bangladesh cricket team, Kaur made her displeasure evident by smashing the stumps with her bat and criticising the umpires in a match in Dhaka in 2023. She received three demerit points for dissent and was fined, and a two-match ban. Ever since, Kaur has been a controversial figure in Bangladesh and several people decided to snub her during India’s tour in the nation.
