Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath for the third time today at Rashtrapati Bhawan in Delhi. The oath ceremony took place at 7:15 pm. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office and secrecy to the Prime minister and other members of the Union Council of Ministers. A total of 72 leaders sworn in to be the part of the Modi 3.0 ministry.
Thirty of them are cabinet ministers, five independent charge and 36 Ministers of State. The portfolios will be announced later. Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah took oath after Prime minister. Nitin Gadkari was the fourth leader to be administered the oath of office by the President. JP Nadda, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, S Jaishankar, and Manohar Lal Khattar followed in taking oath.
The first leader from the BJP’s NDA alliance to sworn in was HD Kumaraswamy of JD(S). Sarbananda Sonowal was the first leader from the northeast to take oath today.
After former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, PM Modi will be the first person to get elected for the third consecutive term. The decision on the new cabinet was taken after a marathon 11-hour meeting at the Prime minister’s residence yesterday.

Top leaders from India’s neighbouring countries and the Indian Ocean region including Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and Seychelles Vice-President Ahmed Afif, are in Delhi to attend the ceremony.
A three-layer security was arranged at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Officials said commandos from Delhi Police’s SWAT and NSG have been deployed around the venue and other strategic locations as Delhi remains on high alert for the event.
About 50 people from the transgender community have been invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi and the new cabinet ministers.

Defying the exit polls that predicted a clean sweep for BJP with 300-400 seats, the saffron party far from its ‘400 paar’ only won 240 short of 32 seats required to the majority. Thus the party had to depend on its allies to form the government. Meanwhile, the opposition INDIA alliance, led by Rahul Gandhi won 232 seats.
This election unlike the previous ones, there is a significant drop in the number of seats won by the BJP. In 2014, the party emerged victorious by securing 353 seats which was later dropped to 303 in the 2019 general elections. The BJPs major loss in key states indicates a dramatic shift in the political landscape it has dominated for the past decade.
