Elon Musk Digs At OpenAI’s Sam Altman With A Game Of Thrones Reference, As Core Team Steps Down

Elon Musk’s Dig At OpenAI’s Sam Altman As Core Team Steps Down.

Since Mira Murati and other top executives stepped down from the ChatGPT platform OpenAI on Wednesday, billionaire Elon Musk took a dig at the CEO Sam Altman by posting a meme suggesting that Altman is now isolated using edited pictures to show key people leaving Altman standing alone with a game of thrones reference.

Elon Musk compared OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman to a sneaky character from “Game of Thrones” called Little Finger. Musk made the comparison on X after several top executives left OpenAI and he posted this after seeing pictures showing Sam Altman with former colleagues with each colleague removed one by one, leaving only Altman.

It is often in the play that Elon Musk mocks Sam Altman and has done so several times before. This time the sudden resignation of executives especially Mira Murati announcing her departure from the organisation after six and a half years of service has triggered Musk to come up with hilarious responses over the resignation. This swift halt follows the OpenAI co-founder Sutskever’s departure from the team in May and Brockman’s decision to resign and go on sabbatical from work in August.

Well, there’s a story behind the strained relationship between Elon Musk and Sam Altman, the current  CEO of OpenAI. It all began in 2015 when Musk and Altman co-founded OpenAI with a mission to democratise access to artificial intelligence (AI) for the benefit of humanity, not profit.

However, Musk stepped down from OpenAI‘s board in 2018 and the rift widened in February 2024 when Musk sued OpenAI and Altman accusing them of abandoning the company’s original mission and instead pursuing profit with Microsoft’s backing.

In March, Elon Musk sued OpenAI and Sam Altman in March saying that they weren’t following their nonprofit goals because of their partnership with Microsoft and OpenAI responded that Musk’s lawsuit didn’t make sense. Later, Musk dropped the lawsuit in June, but he started a new lawsuit against OpenAI in August, saying that OpenAI’s CEO tricked him by using his concerns about AI safety and his recent online jabs at Altman suggest the feud is far from over.
