Gujarat’s Second Bullet Train: Ahmedabad To Delhi In Just 3.5 Hours

With the Ahmedabad to Mumbai bullet train under construction, Gujarat’s capital is set to get another bullet train project connecting Delhi. Reportedly, travel time between the two cities is set to reduce to just 3.5 hours.

Marking the state’s second high-speed rail project, the Ahmedabad to Delhi bullet train is expected to operate at an average speed of 250km per hour. The usual journey spanning 12 hours will be significantly reduced to 3.5 hours.

The project outlines the route which includes stations such as Himmatnagar, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Chittorgarh, Kishanganj, Jaipur, Rewari, and Manesar. Part of the BJP government’s plan to introduce the proposal for the bullet train project, the project aims to improve connectivity and boosting tourism.

In September 2020, the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRC) initiated the bidding process for the alignment design of the line using aerial LiDAR surveys to fasten the planning phrase. The project is now awaiting approval from the Centre. The nearly 900km elevated corridor is expected to save travellers around nine hours.

In BJP’s manifesto, the party has promised to install one bullet train each in north, south, and east of India.

According to the railway officials, the track will be aligned with the existing railway network to limit extensive acquisition of land. The service will begin from Sabarmati station which has a multimodal hub. The bullet train will pass through particular stations in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Haryana.

The first 100-meter steel bridge near Gujarat’s Nadiad has been launched, marking a milestone in the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train corridor. The 1486-metric ton steel bridge marks the second of 28 steel bridges planned for the bullet train project between the two cities. The first one was installed over National Highway 53 in Surat.
