The huge influx of tourists to Himachal Pradesh to celebrate Christmas and upcoming New Year have witnessed severe traffic congestion. District Lahaul and Spiti Police has undertook drone surveillance to maintain the law and order situation, and ensure safety of the tourist and traffic system in the region. The drone shots shows how vehicles are packed in the roads in Lahaul and Spiti district leaving no space for any further availabilities for parking.

The flocking of vehicles has affected the law and order situation in the region. On Monday, a video of a tourist driving a Mahindra Thar SUV through the Chandra River in Lahaul Valley was viral. However, the Himachal Police has issued challan to the driver in this regard. ““Recently, a video went viral in which a Thar is crossing the river Chandra in District Lahaul Spiti. The said vehicle has been challenged under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and to ensure that no one commits such an offence in the future, the district police have deployed police personnel at the said place,” HT quotes as Mayank Chaudhry, superintendent of police is saying.

The rush of vehicles and traffic situation were observed in Kullu, Kasol and Manali as well.
Himachal Pradesh is one of the major winter tourism destination in the country. According to the Himachal administration, they are expecting more than 1 lakh more vehicles to enter the state in this week to celebrate new year, and Chief Minister of the hill state, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has said that the state is managing it well.
