After landing in Tehran, the men were allegedly kidnapped. Families of the victims claim that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore, sending them videos showing the men tied in yellow ropes, visibly injured and bleeding, and threatening to kill them if the money was not paid. Communication between the kidnapped men and their families reportedly occurred through the kidnappers’ phones.
Since May 11, there has been no contact between them.
The Indian Embassy in Tehran confirmed it has received information from the families and has taken up the matter “strongly” with Iranian authorities. “Given the nature of this incident, Indian citizens are strongly advised not to be deceived by the promises of unauthorized individuals or illegal Indian agencies offering travel to other countries.,” it said in a statement, adding that it is keeping family members “regularly updated” about the situation.
