
Nightclub Roof Collapse At Dominican Republic Kills At Least 125: Five Pointers
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic: On Tuesday, a famous night club, Jet Set club, in the Dominican capital collapsed during a merengue concert, killing at least 124 people and injuring many others. Rescue workers are still continuing the search operation clearing debris and taking out survivors. Several people have been trapped under the debris.

- As per video footages from the venue, it is reported that someone near the stage appeared to have pointed out something falling in the back of the Jet Set club nightclub, one of the Caribbean nation’s most famous venues. Soon, the pendant lights suspended from the ceiling began to collapse, along with the entire roof. The collapse followed crashing sounds and screams of the people. The footage then went dark in the collapse.
- The concert attended by politicians, athletes and several other dignitaries, and the deceased includes Former Major League Baseball player Octavio Dotel. He died on the way to the hospital after being rescued from the rubble.
- Nelsy Cruz, governor of the Monte Cristi province, also died during the tragedy. She had reportedly called President Luis Abinader at 12:49 a.m., saying she was trapped and that the roof had collapsed. The son of Public Works Minister Eduardo Estrella is among the missing. Among the injured includes national lawmaker Bray Vargas. Singer Rubby Perez, who was performing when the roof collapsed, is still missing and the rescue crews are searching for him. Initially, there were reports that the singer had been rescued.
- Information regarding the stability of the roof is not available, and it is also not clear when the government had conducted inspection in the nightclub to assess the building safety standard.

Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader has declared three days of mourning following the disaster. He visited the nightclub later on Tuesday to express their condolences to the victims. The president stated that all rescue agencies have provided the necessary assistance and “are working tirelessly in the rescue efforts.”
