Former United States President Donald Trump is “safe” after being shot during an election campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Secret Service says that its personnel has killed the suspected shooter. Trump campaign has shared a latest video of President Trump arriving in New Jersey.

  • Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump was at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when loud noises were heard.
  • He was then quickly covered by Secret Service agents and rushed off-stage to a waiting vehicle. Trump said that a bullet pierced his upper right ear.

  • FBI official Kevin Rojek said that an “assassination attempt” had taken place. The authorities have declined to identify the gunman.
  • US President Joe Biden condemned the life-threatening attack on his Republican rival. “I have been briefed on the shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania. I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it,” he said.
  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he was “deeply concerned by the attack on my friend, former President Donald Trump” and asserted that “violence has no place in politics and democracies”. “Strongly condemn the incident. Violence has no place in politics and democracies. Wish him speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, those injured and the American people,” he wrote on X.
  • Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni sent her “solidarity and… best wishes for a speedy recovery”. She added that she hoped “the next few months of the electoral campaign will see dialogue and responsibility prevail over hatred and violence”.
  • Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump responded, “I love you Dad, today and always”. She thanked people “for your love and prayers for my father and for the other victims of today’s senseless violence in Butler, Pennsylvania”.
  • Many World leaders condemned the incident. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said political violence in any form “has no place in our societies”. 
  • Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he was “sickened by the shooting” and “It cannot be overstated”. Australian PM Anthony Albanese said the incident was “concerning and confronting.

  • Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva condemned the attack, saying it had to be “vehemently repudiated by all defenders of democracy and dialogue in politics.
