In direct and significant response to the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, India on early Wednesday (May 7) morning carried out target military strikes under the mission “Operation Sindoor”. The initial strikes of the operation took place before 1:44 am.
The operation jointly conducted by Army, Navy and the Air Force, targeted nine sites of terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Among the nine sites hit by the India, four were in Pakistan and five in PoK. It included the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s (LeT) base in Muridke, PTI reports.

As per the reports, the military operation has killed at least eight people, while Pakistan’s overnight shelling claimed three civilian lives in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a statement issued by the Defence Ministry, the 1:44 am operation was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory in nature,” and specifically avoided Pakistani military facilities.
Following the strikes, India reached out to several world nations and briefed senior officials about its anti-terror actions against Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said his country has “every right to respond forcefully to this act of war”.
This strong military response came two weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 tourists and on the day when civil defence mock drills had been scheduled across the country.
In a joint press briefing at 10 am, foreign secretary Vikram Misri stated that Pahalgam attack was “barbaric” and it was aimed at undermining the social situation and disturbing communal harmony in J&K that was witnessing progress and development.

The military operation has escalated tension between India and Pakistan. As per the reports, Pakistani troops resorted to heavy cross border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah area of Kupwara district early Wednesday.
Seven persons were killed and 38 others injured as the Pakistan Army showered several forward villages with artillery and mortar shelling along the LoC. The killed include a woman and two children, PTI reports. All schools in the four border districts of Rajasthan – Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Barmer were also closed.
