A few days ago, the brand hinted at the impending arrival of the BMW R 12 G/S, which has now been unveiled abroad. The engine and main structure of this scrambler version, which is based on the R 12 nineT platform, are identical.

Based on the R 12 nineT, the R 12 G/S is a scrambler. Regarding design modifications, the R 12 G/S comes with hand guards and cockpit fairing as standard.

A 21-inch front wheel is standard on the R 12 G/S. Depending on the package selected, the rear wheel can be either the Standard or Enduro Package Pro. The size of the rear wheels and the height of the seats are the primary distinctions between these two packages. The Enduro Package Pro increases the seat height from 860mm to 875mm and replaces the 17-inch rear wheel with an 18-inch one. The seat height can be raised to 890mm with the optional Rallye seat.

A 20mm handlebar riser, off-road footpegs, and the Enduro Pro riding mode—which complements the Rain, Road, and Enduro modes—are additional components of the Enduro Package Pro.

With a fully adjustable USD fork with 200mm of travel and a monoshock with 210mm of travel, it has less bodywork and sits higher off the ground. With its full tank, the R 12 G/S weighs 229 kg, and its tank capacity is 15.5 liters.

Together with the Paralever swingarm, these modifications give the scrambler a noticeably more purposeful stance. Its heritage can be traced back to the legendary R 80 G/S, and its design is more in line with the previous HP2 Enduro than the R 1300 GS.

Braking duties are handled by twin 310mm discs up front with axially mounted Brembo callipers coupled with a 265mm rotor at the rear. It gets a full suite of electronic rider aids from BMW such as traction control, cornering ABS (switchable), engine braking control, keyless ignition and LED headlight with optional adaptive headlight.

This 1,170cc, horizontally opposed (boxer) twin-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine is a carryover from the R 12 nineT, which generates 109 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 115 Nm at 6,500 rpm. At the same rpm, it delivers the same maximum power as the R 12 nineT. It comes in a single version with three different color choices. When and how much the BMW R 12 G/S will cost when it debuts in India are yet unknown.
