Hyundai has recently teased its upcoming electric micro-SUV, the Inster, which claims an impressive range of 335 kilometers. While it remains unconfirmed whether the Inster EV will be available in India, anticipation is building for its debut at the Busan Mobility Show on June 27.
The Hyundai Casper, the petrol variant currently available in South Korea, has already generated significant excitement following its trademark filing in India. The Inster EV is expected to be the electric version of this micro-SUV, derived from the Grand i10 Nios, and will likely share similar dimensions. The petrol Casper measures 3,595 mm in length, 1,386 mm in width, 1,575 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,400 mm.
Hyundai Inster EV: Design and Features
The Inster EV will feature a split headlamp design on the front facade, with sleek LED daytime running lights (DRLs) serving as indicators and circular headlights encircled by new LED DRLs. Hyundai’s teasers show the Inster with a front charging lid, similar to its competitor, the Tata Punch EV. Although side profile details are not fully revealed, the silhouette closely resembles that of the Casper. The rear of the Inster showcases Hyundai’s distinctive EV pixel graphics for the tail lamps and indicators.
While the interior of the Inster EV has not been disclosed, Hyundai claims that the vehicle will offer a driving range of 355 kilometers (WLTP) on a single charge, making it a strong contender in the electric micro-SUV market.
Competing with Tata Punch EV
Should Hyundai decide to launch the Inster EV in India, it will directly compete with the popular Tata Punch EV. The standard variant delivers 80 bhp and 114 Nm of torque, offering a driving range of 315 kilometers. The long-range variant produces 121 bhp and 190 Nm of torque, with a driving range of 421 kilometers, according to Tata Motors. The starting price for the standard Punch EV is Rs 10.99 lakh, while the long-range version is priced at Rs 15.49 lakh, ex-showroom.
With the Inster EV, Hyundai aims to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle segment, offering a competitive range and distinctive design features. The potential launch of the Inster EV in India could provide a strong alternative to the Tata Punch EV, appealing to consumers looking for eco-friendly and efficient micro-SUV options. The automotive market is poised for exciting developments as Hyundai continues to innovate and expand its electric vehicle offerings.
