A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is signed between Andhra Pradesh and Switzerland-based International Baccalaureate (IB) to introduce the IB curriculum in the State-run schools. Praveen Prakash, Principal Secretary of School Education and Anton Beguin, Chief Education Officer of IB exchanged the MoU documents in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Pointing out the benefits of the integration of IB syllabus with Class I to XII syllabus, CM Reddy said, “In countries like India, quality education is necessary to make the students competitive at the global level. The MoU with the IB will ensure a good future of the students by helping them land high-paid jobs in the competitive job market”. “A new journey has begun to set new standards in the education system”, added Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Initially, the IB syllabus will be introduced in Class I from the 2025-26 with consecutive upgraded lessons in further classes. The IB syllabus will become part of all classes in government schools by 2035 and will be taught to students of Class XII in 2037.

Emphasising the need to enhance problem-solving abilities of Indian students, the Chief Minister added the integration of IB curricula with school’s syllabus would help in achieving this ability.

According to the MoU, the IB experts will support government school teachers and Education Department officials at the mandal and district level, officers and staff of the SSC and Intermediate Boards and APSCERT in handling IB syllabus and to make them part of IB global teaching network.

While saying it as their biggest MoU of its kind, IB Director General Olli Pekka Heinonen expected it to be an inspiration for other countries. He also hoped for improving ties between both the countries in education sector. IB would help students to learn foreign languages besides other important subjects such as mathematics, science and arts, he emphasised.

Education Minister B.Satyanarayana, Chief Secretary K.S.Jawahar Reddy, School Education Commissioner S. Suresh Kumar, Intermediate Education Commissioner Sourav Gour and other state officials were also present on the occasion.
