CBSE Class X Mathematics Examination 2026 Experts' Analysis: Standard Paper 'Easy', Basic Paper 'Difficult'

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Class X Mathematics Examination today, February 17, and the exam feedback from students and teachers has begun to pour in.

As per the experts, the standard mathematic paper was easy, while the basic mathematics paper exhibited a comparatively higher level of difficulty. Feedback has been received from Ms Sutha Sahadevan and Ms. Sushma S, trained graduated teachers of Mathematics, Army Public School, Delhi Cantt, and its principal, Dr. Neetu Kapoor.

The experts observed that the standard paper was perceived as an easier one compared to the previous year, making it easier for an average student to score 75–80%, while the basic paper posed moderate challenges, particularly in Section D and the case study component.

The standard paper was well-structured and in alignment with the CBSE pattern, with questions being clear, direct and largely within the expected framework, making it easier for the average student to score 75-85%, the teachers opined, adding that the students found the paper manageable and were able to attempt it with confidence.

The basic paper, as per the feedback, reflected a comparatively higher level of difficulty. “While the overall standard was moderate, certain sections required deeper application and interpretation,” the experts analyzed, highlighting that the case study questions in the Basic paper were perceived as slightly difficult and comprehension-heavy for this level.

Section D, the experts pointed out, was relatively challenging, as it included application-based questions that required careful understanding and analytical approach. ‘Students reported that some questions demanded more interpretation than anticipated for the Basic paper, the feedback added.
