The Supreme Court refused to entertain a plea filed by the Delhi University student Rahul Jhansla, MA student who sought permission to contest for the Secretary Post in the Delhi University Students Union Elections scheduled for September 27, 2024. A bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Sanjay Kumar, and R Mahadevan heard the matter and decided not to stay the elections nor permit Jhansla to contest provisionally.
Jhansla’s nomination was canceled as he filed multiple nominations for different posts, the bench observed.
Justice Kumar referred to a news report pointing out that the University is to take a call on whether the elections should be re-scheduled and nominations called afresh.

“Why did you not go to the Division bench? Because you’re there at the Supreme Court, so you directly come there. Please move the Division Bench. As far as the law of elections are concerned, they are never stayed. We can’t accept nomination or anything”, added Justice Khanna.
Jhansla had also approached the Delhi High Court, however, a single judge bench issued notice on his petition, it did not grant interim relief. so, he approached the Supreme Court.
Also, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has announced its candidates for the upcoming Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections. NSUI National President, Varun Choudhary, expressed strong confidence in the organization’s ability to secure a 4-0 victory, signaling a significant shift in the political landscape of Delhi University.

– Vice President: Yash Nandal
– Secretary: Namrata Jeph Meena
– Joint Secretary: Lokesh Choudhary
