Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed an event commemorating the 200th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the Arya Samaj founder. He addressed the event via video conference at Tankara, his birthplace in Gujarat’s Morbi District and expressed his gratitude over the celebration to remember Dayanand Saraswati’s contributions to the society.

PM Modi reemphasised the need to reform Indian educational system and to return to the ancient time of Vedas. Highlighting the crucial role played by Arya Samaj Schools in the Indian education system, Prime Minister mentioned that the Indian values rooted in our education system are the need of the hour.

He remembered the Swami Dayanand Saraswati call to ‘Go Back To Vedas’ at a time when Indian traditions and spirituality were fading. In addition, PM Modi also emphasised on the rational interpretation and scholarly commentaries on the Vedas.

Emphasising the National Education Policy 2020, Modi said that it is taking the vision of Swami Dayanand Saraswati forward. He said that the true tribute to Dayanandji is Arya Samaj taking up the responsibility of nation building with new energy in 21st century.

Modi explained the real nature of Indian philosophy by recalling the Saraswati Dayanand logical explanation on the Vedas and his attacks on stereotypes originating from the disillusion. He also mentioned how Swami’s indulgence in the Vedas and its teaching brought the people’s confidence back and they started knowing the Vedic religion and got connected to its teachings.

While talking about the global spread and outreach of Arya Samaj institutions PM Modi mentioned that Arya Samaj is a vibrant testament to modernity. He also referred to the guidance of Arya Samaj provided with over 2,500 schools, colleges and universities and more than 400 gurukuls all across the world.
