The seventh and final phase of the world”s largest ever democratic event is here. The 18th Lok Sabha elections in India will officially conclude on June 1. The final votes will be counted and announced on June 4. Phase seven of the Lok Sabha elections will witness some big names in the race, with political stalwarts from both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition-led Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc.
So far voters have pushed through the rising temperatures to cast their votes, with the first six phases held on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20 and May 25.
The eight states and union territories going to polls today include Uttar Pradesh (13), Himachal Pradesh (4), Bihar (8), Punjab (13), Odisha (6), Jharkhand (3), West Bengal (9), and Chandigarh (1). A total of 907 candidates across 57 constituencies will have their fate decided tomorrow.
Some of the key constituencies in the political fray include Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Basirhat (West Bengal), Kendrapara (Odisha), Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh), Diamond Harbour (West Bengal), Amritsar (Punjab), Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Chandigarh, Patliputra (Bihar), and Bathinda (Punjab).
The high-profile candidates in the seventh and final phase include PM Narendra Modi (Varanasi), Sandeshkhali survivor Rekha Patra (Basirhat), Pawan Singh (Karakat), Lalu Yadav’s daughter Misa Bharti (Patliputra), Hasmirat Kaur Badal (Bathinda), Gurjeet Singh Aujla (Amritsar), Ravneet Bittu (Ludhiana), Ravi Shankar Prasad (Patna Sahib), Kangana Ranaut (Mandi), Anurag Thakur (Hamirput), Abhishek Banerjee (Diamond Harbour), and Ravi Kishan (Gorakhpur).
Out of the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha, or the lower house of the Indian Parliament, the party or coalition that secures the majority of the seats in the Lok Sabha will form the next government of the nation.
