AR Rahman Opens Up About The Use Of AI To Recreate The Sounds Of Late Singers In Lal Salaam

Sharing the Twitter post of “Sony Music South (India”) about the recreation of the mesmerizing voices of late singers, Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed for the Tamil superstar Rajinikanth-starrer movie, Lal Salaam, India’s iconic music composer AR Rahman today took to his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), noting that the technology is not a threat, boasting about his use of AI to bring back the voice of late popular singers.

Directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth, the hero Rajinikanth”s daughter, Lal Salaam promises a fresh and unique experience with the adoption of new technology. Not surprisingly, the Oscar-winning composer took a bold move and broke the boundaries of the composition by using technology to recreate the vocals of the nostalgic singers.

Talking about the ethical aspects of using the legends’ voice by bringing it back with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Mr. Rahman said that they took permission from the late singers” families and also sent them a deserving remuneration for using their voice algorithms.

“We took permission from their families and sent deserving remuneration for using their voice algorithms. Technology is not a threat and a nuisance if we use it right,” AR Rahman wrote.

However, both the late singers had worked with Rahman. The veteran singer Shahul Hameed lost his life in a car accident in 1997 and the Tamil playback singer Bamba Bakya with whom Mr. Rahman worked to produce some of the biggest hits such as Bigil, died in 2021.

With the Tamil language sports drama set to hit theaters on February 9, both the fans of Rajinikanth and the late singers are eagerly waiting to witness the mix of technology and talent. They are also anticipating the experience the late legends’ recreated soundtracks.
