The 54th Kerala State Film Awards were announced today. Aadujeevitham -The Goat Life won big, bagging nine awards, including Best Actor for Prithviraj Sukumaran and Best Director for Blessy.
Prithviraj gave the performance of a lifetime for the movie Aadujeevitham. He essayed the role of Najeeb, effectively communicated the harrowing experience of the trials and tribulations character underwent in all physical vulnerability and helplessness. The strenuous physical transformation in which the actor shed nearly 31 kilograms of weight added to the evocative performance. This is the third Best Actor award for the actor; earlier, he won the awards in 2006 and 2012.

Urvashi and Beena R Chandran received the Best Actress awards for the movies Ullozhukku and Thadavu, respectively.
Urvashi received the award for her role as Leelamma in the movie Ullozhukku, written and directed by Christo Tomy. The film was about the complex relationship between a daughter-in-law and her mother-in-law. This is the sixth Best Actress award for the actress; she won awards in the years 1989, 1990, 1991, 1995, and 2006. Uravashi won the National Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie Achuvinte Amma. Besides, she has won the Tamil Nadu State Government’s Best Actress Award twice and the Filmfare Award eight times.
Beena R Chandran received an award for her role as Geetha, an anganwadi teacher, in Fazil Razak’s film, Thadavu. Though she was associated with a couple of short films and director Sudevan’s Crime No 89, Thadavu became his full-length character in a feature film. Beena is a teacher by vocation and an artist by passion. She is also a known mimicry artist.

Blessy won the Best Director Award for Aadujeevitham. The movie marked his return to the big screen after a decade. A masterful filmmaker, he is synonymous with his unwavering commitment and dedication, and Aadujeevitham is an example in this regard. The movie, which is a product of the director’s sixteen years of hard work, has been evident and has been appreciated by audiences and critics alike. This marks his fourth State Film award; he received earlier for the films Kaazhcha (2004), Thanmathra (2005) and Pranayam (2011). In 2005, he received National Awards for Thanmathra as well.
