A video of approximately 50 cows being thrown into a swollen river in Satna district, Madhya Pradesh has gone viral on social media. The incident has prompted the police to file a case against four men.
As per the preliminary report, 15 to 20 cows died in the incident that occurred on Tuesday. However, the information is yet to be verified.

Nagod police station in-charge Ashok Pandey said that the video surfaced on Tuesday evening, showing the cows being thrown into the Satna River from a railway bridge near Bamhor. Soon after the video surfaced, the police sent a team to the location and subsequently registered a case.
Four persons identified as Beta Bagri, Ravi Bagri, Rampal Choudhary and Rajlu Choudhary, have been booked under relevant sections of the Madhya Pradesh Gauvansh Vadh Pratishedh Adhiniyam. This law prevents the killing of cows in the state, and also under the BNS, the police official said.

“As soon as the matter came to light through social media, a case was registered against the accused in Nagod police station under crime number 535/24 section 325, 3(5) Indian Justice Code (BNS), 4/9 M.P. Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act 2004 and proceedings are underway,” the police wrote on X.
The police found that the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
The exact number of cows thrown into the river is still unknown and as per the initial probe, it is speculated that there were around 50 cows.

“As per the initial information, there were around 50 cows and 15 to 20 of them died. A rescue operation is underway,” Nagod police station in-charge Ashok Pandey said.
Further investigation and a manhunt for the accused is underway, the police noted.
