Bengaluru, Karnataka: Bengaluru civic body Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on New Delhi-based Rodic Consultants Private Limited following the ‘error’ in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for its 14,981-crore tunnel road project.

The DPR draft is prepared for the 18 km tunnel road linking Hebbal Esteem Mall Junction and Silk Board KSRP Junction in the city. The report was finished in a three months. But the report seems to have carried details from a Maharashtra project, allegedly a ‘copy-paste’ job which raised questions about its authenticity. In a data concerning traffic volume counts and cordon locations (table 15, page 29), DPR had written the names of cities like Malegaon and Nashik instead of Bengaluru in several columns.
This error prompted experts to raise objection on the quality and reliability of the report. Many observers had also questioned the least time frame the company took to submit the report, since any DPR usually takes at least nine months to a year .
Taking note of the severity of the case, the civic body imposed a penalty of Rs 5 lakh against Rodic Consultants. BBMP’s Engineer-in-Chief BS Prahlad said that it has seriously considered the errors that have been brought to notice. The company has tendered an apology and the BBMP has imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh, he added.

The tunnel project aims to mitigate traffic congestion between two busy junctions in Bengaluru – Hebbal and Silk Board. Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has been promoting the project as part of his “Brand Bengaluru” initiative. Aside from the DPR, the civic body has also issued a feasibility study along the same corridor from Altinok Consulting for Rs 4.7 crore
