“Deeply Disturbed… Apprehend The Accused”: National Women’s Commission Finally Comes Into Action On Prajwal Revanna

After facing criticism over not taking any action for the last three days on the sexual abuse and rape charges against Hassan sitting MP and NDA Lok Sabha candidate Prajwal Revanna, National Commission for Women (NCW) reacted today. In a letter addressed to Karnataka DGIG of police Alok Madan, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said she is disturbed by the incident and asked to apprehend the accused, who has fled the country.

The Commission has also asked for a detailed report in three days on the measures taken.

“The National Commission for Women has come across multiple media reports indicating that several video clips of sexual nature, allegedly involving Mr Prajwal Revanna sitting MP for Lok Sabha from Hassan constituency sexually abusing hundreds of women were circulated on social media in recent days. The Commission strongly condemns the incident and is deeply disturbed by its occurrence. Such events not only endanger women’s safety but also foster a culture of disrespect and violence against them,” the Commission wrote to Mr Madan.

“We urge prompt and decisive action from the concerned Police Authority to swiftly apprehend the accused, who has fled the country. A detailed report outlining the measures taken must be submitted to the Commission within three days,” it demanded.

Prajwal Revanna has been facing sexual harassment and alleged sex video scandals. After finding several pen drives containing sex videos involving Prajwal Revanna, the Karnataka government on Sunday formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the scandal. The scandal is learnt to have involved multiple women in 3000 files. The JD(S) chief on Sunday announced the suspension the accused MP.

Amid the ongoing outcry over the MP’s involvement in the sexual abuse, Prajwal Revanna has reportedly left the country.

After the news of the scandal came out, Congress’s women’s wing staged a protest demanding the immediate arrest of the Hassan MP. Many had questioned the silence of the National Commission for Women (NCW).
