Gujarat's Sinister Plot: Wife Conspires With Lover To Fake Her Death, Burns Stranger In Her Clothes

Ahmedabad, Gujarat: A horrific crime unfolded in Gujarat’s Patan district, where a 56-year-old Dalit man, Harji Debha Solanki, was allegedly burnt alive by a young married woman, Geeta, and her illicit lover, Bharat Lubha Ahir, for the sake of their relationship. Police arrested the 22-year-old and her lover at Palanpur railway station in Banaskantha district on Wednesday, after tracking the duo using mobile phone triangulation and CCTV footage.

The case began on May 27 when a half-burnt body was found near Jakhotra village, dressed in women’s clothing. Though locals believed it was Geeta, as the body was dressed in an orange embroidered blouse, a blue ghaghra, and anklets, the investigation revealed the body was of a man from Vauva village.

In the further investigation, police found that Geeta was in love with Bharat and both conspired to fake her death using a male body dressed in her clothes, and thus escape to start a new life. Geeta was looking for a way to escape her marriage bond due to her extramarital relationship with Bharat.

According to a Patan police official, the accused devised a plot reminiscent of a crime thriller, taking direct inspiration from the film Drishyam. To execute their plan, the duo allegedly searched for someone vulnerable for their sinister plot across several villages and finally picked up the elderly Dalit man, Harji Solanki, sensing his frail condition. Police say Bharat tied Solanki’s limp body to his own on his relative’s bike and drove from Vauva village to Jakhotra village.

According to witnesses, they had seen Bharat with the Dalit man, and when questioned, he claimed Solanki was ill and needed medical help. However, Geeta joined Bharat later, and together, they dressed the still-alive Solanki in Geeta’s clothes, doused him in petrol, and set him on fire near her marital home burning him alive, aiming to convince her husband in disguise that she has died.

Geeta’s husband, who woke up, found the burning body dressed in his wife’s clothes. After finding the body, he reported his 22-year-old wife Geeta had gone missing the previous night at around 11 pm. When he found the clothing on the body which resembled Geeta’s, it raised suspicion that it was his wife’s body.

They were initially confused, but the police soon unearthed the truth behind the gruesome incident. Tragically, post-mortem findings confirmed Solanki was alive when set on fire, and the cause of death was severe burn injuries. Pancha Debha Solanki identified the victim as his younger brother.

Locals are shocked to learn the complexities of the horrific act and the human emotions in which crimes are committed.
