Karnataka Woman Dies By Suicide After In-Laws Allegedly Force Her Into Prostitution: Report

Bengaluru, Karnataka: A woman has allegedly died by suicide after facing harassment from her husband’s family which included forced prostitution in Karnataka’s Bidar district. The woman, 22-year-old Anjanabai Shekhar Patil, from Bhalki, was found dead at her home in Basavakalyan’s Om Colony recently, NDTV reported.

The woman married Shekhar Patil in 2022 and the couple had an 11-month-old baby. The woman’s father, Vijaykumar, has alleged that his daughter was facing daily mental and physical harassment by her in-laws.

Vijaykumar,  alleged that his daughter had allegedly pressured her into prostitution. She was also subjected to further domestic abuse that caused severe mental trauma, leading to her decision to take the extreme step, as per the father’s statement given to the police.

The father also alleged that his daughter had been assaulted for refusing illicit relationships and forced prostitution. Police have filed a case against the husband’s family in the case, and have booked three accused people, including Shekhar Patil.

All three accused are in custody. Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
