“Very Serious” PM Modi Reacts To Parliamentary Security Breach

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his first remark on parliamentary breach and said that the incident as ‘very serious’. He said that there is no need to debate on the issue and a detailed investigation should be carried out.

The major security breach was happened on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack. “”The seriousness of this incident should not be downplayed. The (Lok Sabha) Speaker is taking all the necessary steps. Probe agencies are investigating the matter. It is important to find out which elements are behind this and what their objectives are. There is no need to debate this, there should be a detailed investigation into this,” Narendra Modi said in an interview to a Hindi daily.

Earlier this week, during the zero hour proceedings of the parliament, two persons jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitor’s gallery spraying yellow colour smoke. They were pinned down by some MP’s present in the house. Their co-accused stages a similar protest outside the Parliament. A total of six people was arrested in connection with the case so far. The arrested members said that this action was done to invite the attention to Manipur violence, unemployment and farmer’s problem.

Delhi police have invoked the stringent anti-terror law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, against the trespassers.

Meanwhile, the opposition has criticized the government for the security failure and demanded a statement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, Lok Sabha speaker, Om Birla said that the security inside Lok Sabha is under the secretariat’s purview and that it will not let the Centre intervene.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that the breach is a serious issue and said, “This is not good for democracy,” to reporters, says NDTV.

A high-powered committee has been formed to review various aspects of security in the Parliament complex. This committee is in addition to a CRPF director general headed panel which is investigating the incident.
