JD(S) Suspends Prajwal Revanna Over Sexual Abuse Allegations

Edited by Hiba Anvar

As opposition and public escalated the attacks on JDS and alliance partner BJP over the mass molestation allegations against his party candidate and nephew Prajwal Revanna, the JD(S) on Tuesday has announced the suspension of Prajwal from the party temporarily. Former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy said the party and the family will not protect the fugitive sitting MP of Hassan.

Kumaraswamy further said that as common man of the country, they have to move further. ”We are not going to protect him, we will take severe action but the government’s responsibility is more. Not only as an uncle but as common man of the country we have to move further,” he said.

By calling it a shameful issue, he said that he would not protect anyone. “We have fought against these kinds of illegal things. This is a serious issue. Who is running the government, they have to expose the real picture and the ground reality has to be exposed by the govt and not me…,” he is heard saying in a video shared by news agency ANI.

Revanna along with his father HD Revanna, JD(S) MLA were booked on Sunday by the police for sexual harassment and criminal intimidation based on a complaint from women, who worked in the household.

“We welcome SIT against Prajwal Revanna. We’ve taken a decision to recommend our party’s national president to suspend him from the party till the SIT investigation is completed, ” JD(S) core committee president GT Devegowda said.

The state under Siddaramaiah has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the matter. Meanwhile, Revanna fled the country even before the state government ordered to form SIT. The party chief said that the decision will be discussed tomorrow at the core committee meeting in Hubbali as the accused is a Member of Parliament.

Meanwhile, Kumaraswamy alleged that Congress was manipulating facts to destroy the image of his family amid the controversy over the ‘obscene‘ video case against his nephew Prajwal. “This is the manipulation of Congress to destroy the image of our family. What is the role of Dewegowda Ji or me? We are not responsible for all those things. This is the individual issue of Prajwal Revanna. I am not in contact with him (Prajwal). It is the responsibility of the government to bring him before the law. Morally we have decided to make some decisions,” Kumaraswamy told reporters on Tuesday.

Prajwal, 33, represents the BJP-JD(S) alliance in the Lok Sabha election in Hassan constituency. The polling was held on Friday.
