
Kerala Rains: 3 Districts On Red Alert, Dams Opened, Rivers Rising (image: Special Arrangement)
Kerala Rains: The heavy downpour continue to cause havoc across different parts of Kerala. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, indicating extremely heavy rainfall, in Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Friday.
Meanwhile, an orange alert, indicating heavy rainfall, is in place for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad.

All educational institutions in the districts of Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Thrissur, Palakkad, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki, and Pathanamthitta have been declared holiday for today. In Alappuzha district, a holiday has been declared for all the educational institutions in the Kuttanad taluk.
In the coastal regions, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) instructed fishermen and other residents to be alert for rough sea conditions as high waves of 1.2 to 3.7 meters were expected along the Kerala shores till 8.30 pm on Friday.
Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) informed about the increasing water levels in Manimala and Achankovil (Pathanamthitta), the Meenachil (Kottayam), the Korapuzha (Kozhikode), and the Kabani (Wayanad) rivers. Alerts have been notified to people living in the riverbanks.
In view of the rising water levels, shutters of the Kallarkutty, Malankara, Ponmudi, and Pampla dams have been opened.
Local media report seven rain-related deaths from different parts of the State.
Relief efforts are progressing. 1,200 people have been shifted to 59 relief camps across the state, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

Due to the heavy rain, several trains are running late – Jan Shatabdi Express delayed by three hours.
Evaluating the situation, one unit each of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed in Idukki, Malappuram, Kasaragod and Thrissur, On Manorama reports. Additional units will remain as stand-by in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Kozhikode and Wayanad by June 1.
