
Peerumedu MLA And Senior CPI Leader Vazhoor Soman Dies At 72
Senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and Peerumedu MLA Vazhoor Soman died on Thursday at the age of 72. The legislator collapsed while attending an official government programme in the state capital. Though he was immediately rushed to a private hospital nearby, doctors could not save his life.
Soman, who entered the Kerala Assembly for the first time in 2021 by defeating Congress candidate Cyriac Thomas, was widely respected within the CPI as a trade unionist and grassroots leader.
At the time of his death, he was serving as the state vice president of AITUC and also a member of its national council.

Born on September 14, 1952, to Kunjupappan and Parvathy at Vazhoor in Kottayam, he remained deeply connected to his roots while rising in state politics.
Soman is survived by his wife, Bindu Soman, and two children, Sobin Soman and Sobith Soman.
A close associate of former CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran, Soman was active in public life for decades, beginning his political journey through the All India Students’ Federation (AISF).

Over the years, he held several important positions, including Chairman of the Idukki District Panchayat Welfare Standing Committee (2005–2010) and later as Chairman of the Kerala State Warehousing Corporation (2016–2021).
