After severe landslides struck Wayanad causing devastation and death of over 400 people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of Chooralmala and Mundakkai villages in the district. Aboard an Indian Air Force helicopter, he is accompanied by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Governor Arif Mohammad Khan.
Union Minister and BJP leader Suresh Gopi also accompanied PM Modi.

PM Modi visited disaster-struck Chooralmala village by road from Kalpetta and inspected the Indian Army’s 190-foot-long Bailey bridge. While surveying the damage, he also interacted with rescue personnel.
Reportedly, he will also visit the Institute of Medical Sciences at Meppadi in Wayanad to meet the survivors of the disaster, currently undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Kerala government has sought financial aid amounting to Rs 2,000 crore in assistance from the central government for rehabilitation and relief work in the region.
Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi visited Wayanad on August 1, and demanded the union government to declare the landslides a national disaster.
