Creating another milestone in his ambitious scaling of mountain journey, a 36-year-old Kerala government employee, Shaikh Hassan Khan successfully ascended Mount Vinson, the highest peak in Antarctica. Adding one more to his impressive list of conquest, this will mark the fifth-highest peak he has climbed. Kerala chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated the mountaineer for achieving this glorious milestone.
He wrote, “Shaikh Hassan Khan summitted Mount Vinson in Antarctica as part of his expedition to spread global awareness about climate change. You’ve made all Keralites proud with this glorious achievement. Best wishes for all your endeavors in future.”

While in conversation with the PTI, Hassan Khan revealed his ambitious motto of scaling mountains is to spread awareness about climate change which is being significantly taking place in Antarctica. Being a passionate mountaineer, he focused on creating awareness on climate change, youth empowerment and world peace.
Shaikh Hassan Khan reached the summit at 8:40 pm local time on December 12 and proudly hoisted the Indian flag. In addition to Mount Vinson, he also conquered four other peaks, namely Mount Everest in Asia, Mount Denali in North America, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, and Mount Elbrus in Europe.
While climbing the summit, Khan had to endure many challenges including frostbite on both hands during the ascent, and is currently undergoing treatment at the Union Glacier Camp in Antarctica. He had to climb enduring the extreme conditions at the summit, where temperatures dropped to as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius.
Unhindered by the obstacles in the way, Khan looks forward to his upcoming ventures. In the coming days, the 36-year-old plans to travel to Chile and then to Argentina, where he plans to conquer Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak outside the Himalayas.
Khan who is currently on leave from his government jobs depends on his friends to plan trips. He served the state as an Assistant Section Officer since July 2015.
