Congress candidate Pranti Sushilkumar Shinde won from the Solapur Lok Sabha constituency by securing 620,225 votes. She defeated the BJP candidate Ram Vitthal with a margin of 74,197 votes.
BJP’s Ram Vitthal Satpute is member of the Legislative assembly from Malshiras. He won the election by defeating the heavyweight politician Uttam Jankar, NCP candidate.
Pranti Sushilkumar Shinde, Congress’ candidate from the constituency is a three-time member of the legislative assembly from Solapur city central constituency. She is also working president of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee from 2021 and member of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee for assembly election.
Historically, the Solapur Lok Sabha constituency has been a stronghold of the Congress party and it was represented three times by former Maharashtra Chief minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, amidst the Modi wave, Shinde lost the seat. In the 2019, Congress re-nominated Shinde while BJP chose to field a religious guru from the Lingayat community, Jay Sidheshwar as their candidate.
In 2014 election, BJP’s Sharad Bansode emerged victorious with 517,879 votes defeating the former union minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.
In the 2019 elections, BJPs Jay Sidheshwar Swami secured victory with 524,985 votes, defeating former union minister Sushil Kumar Shinde with 366,377 votes.
The trend shows that the Maha Vikas Agadhi has toppled the exit poll results and is leading in the state sweeping majority of the seats.
