Dr. Kalge Shivaji Bandappa, Congress candidate from Latur Lok Sabha constituency by securing 609,021 votes. He won by defeating the BJP candidate Sudhakar Tukaram with a margin of 61,881 votes.
Sudhakar Tukaram Shrangare, BJP candidate is the sitting MP from Latur. Though he had won the election, he was widely criticized for his performance as the political leader during his tenure. Several BJP officials and leaders of the district has openly expressed their dissatisfaction with the performance of the current MP.
Congress fielded candidate Dr Kalge Shivaji Bandappa is an ophthalmologist in the Latur city. Historically the Latur seat was under Congress influence, notably with Shivraj Patil serving as the MP for seven consecutive terms from 1980 to 2004.
However, BJP’s Rupa D Patil Nilangekar, the daughter-in-law of the ex- chief minister emerged as the giant killer by defeating the Congressman and 7-term Lok Sabha veteran.
Considering the importance of Latur (SC) for its traditional support to the Congress, the party’s senior leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra addressed her maiden election rally in 10 years here on April 27 for Kalge.
In the 2014 election, BJPs ascendancy was confirmed in the region with the win of Sunil Baliram Gaikwads victory and this made huge transition from the Congress long-standing influence.
While in 2019, BJP’s Sudhakar Tukaram Shrungare captured the seat by defeating the Congress candidate Machchindra Kamant.
