Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy accused the leaders from Congress and the BJP of trying to “destroy” the image of the party and orchestrating the “obscene videos” case linked to his nephew and Karnataka MP Prajwal Revanna.

In an interview, Kumaraswamy claimed that three days ahead of going to the polls, sections of opposition parties, including Congress leaders and one BJP leader, had “collided.” After their “unsuccessful campaign and internal backstabbing,” the sections of opposition circulated “pen drives” to Revanna to malign his and his family’s image.

“So before going to the polls, they decided to circulate some pen drives about Prajwal Revanna, whether they are fake or genuine, I do not know. SIT was formed and the state government has the responsibility to bring real facts. They tried to malign him and the Dewegowda and our family,” he said.

Calling it an attempt to destroy the party’s image, JD(S) leader accused the leaders of misusing “the power of the government.” Kumaraswamy also alleged that a “senior minister” was behind the matter.

Regarding the Lok Sabha polls in the Hassan constituency, where Revanna has been nominated as the NDA candidate, the party leader expressed his confidence that the elections will remain unaffected by the alleged sexual assault case.

Obscene and explicit videos of alleged sexual assault involving several women and Prajwal Revanna went viral on social media two days before the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in the state were held.

The former CM, while questioning the timing of the video, stated that the person involved will have to be punished “as per the law of the land.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s office announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up to investigate the matter.

According to reports, Revanna, the grandson of former PM HD Deve Gowda, allegedly fled the country before SIT was announced and is now in Germany. Refuting all allegations, Revanna claimed that the sexual assault videos were morphed. A woman has filed an FIR against the MP on sexual abuse charges between 2019 and 2022. Reportedly, more women are expected to come forward.
