Mumbai Heavy Rain Disrupts Trains, Flights, Schools And Colleges; NDRF Teams Deployed

Mumbai has been hit by the heavy rains in the last 24 hours with some areas receiving rainfall with a recorded over 300 mm of rainfall, reportedly on Monday. The Vikhroli’s Veer Savarkar Marg Municipal School and MCMCR Powai saw the highest rainfall with over 315 mm of rainfall recorded since Monday.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several locations in Maharashtra including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and the Konkan belt. The agency has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai on Tuesday. In Mumbai, sea waves of 4.4 meters high tides are expected.

Amid the high rainfall over 50 flights were canceled and several airlines shared the news via ‘X’ and urged passengers to check flight status regularly. All government, private, and municipal schools and colleges in the city have been shut due to flooded roads and waterlogging.

The local rail service was hindered due to submerged rail tracks. Water logging at Worli, Buntara Bhavan, Kurla East, King’s Circle, Dadar, and Vidyavihar disrupted the rail services impacting over 30 lakh commuters using suburban local trains in Mumbai. The service was suspended between Kasara and Titwala stations in Thane as the tracks were declared unsafe due to the coverage of soils on them.

Reportedly, the train embankment also got damaged on the Vasind-Khardi section from 3 am to 6 am due to heavy rainfall and flash floods.

Several teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are deployed in Thane, Vasai (Palghar), Mahad (Raigarh), Satara Ghatkopar, Kurla, Sindhudurg and other places. The NDRF team has rescued 49 people in Maharashtra Thane and 16 people in Palghar, as per the reports. The disaster response team used life jackets and boats to rescue people stranded at the resorts due to flooding.

However, the Mumbai rain cause disruption of life every year and people face the same situation almost every year. Now cosnidering the waterlogging and heavy disruptions people have been demanding the accountablilty. Users are sharing the images and video on X.

Another User shared visuals from Vile Parle and writes, “Half Mumbai is water logged by only one night of rain. please take some serious action in this matter, at least start the pumps. The issue is very serious, water logging in vile Parle West, from SV Road to Mithibai”.

Amid all the difficulties some visuals also shared on ‘X’ where Sikh volunteers were seen serving hot tea to the Mumbaikars stranded amid the waterlogged streets.
