The continuous rainfall in several parts of Uttarakhand over the past few days has threatened the vulnerable regions of the hilly state with potential landslides. Many roads were blocked when waterlogged amid torrential downpours.
Wednesday’s huge landslides had led to the pileup of debris at the opening area of a tunnel on the Badrinath National Highway, leading to the closure of the highway for over 48 hours.
Though the highway was opened this morning after clearing the road, it still remains closed near Joshimath where a landslide had blocked the Patal Ganga Langsi tunnel, and travellers are able to cross the area on foot.
