The Ganga River water level in Rishikesh has surged due to torrential rains in Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Centre in Uttrakhand has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in various areas with extremely heavy rainfall likely in the Kumaon region.
Amid the ongoing heavy rainfall and weather forecasts, schools will be shut in 5 districts in Kumaon after heavy rain, landslides, and debris led the roadblocks in various parts of Uttarakhand. As per the reports, except Almora, schools will remain closed in 5 districts. Reportedly, 244 roads have been blocked in the last 24 hours in the state.

Thunderstorms with lightning and intense downpours are predicted on July 8-9 in both the hills and plains areas. Heavy rains are anticipated in Tehri, Pauri, Bageshwar, Almora, Nainital, and Champawat districts on July 10. Rain Red alerts are issued for Dehradun and Chamoli.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has issued an alert for travelers urging them to avoid staying at the Triveni Ghat Aarti Sthal overnight. The SDRF team is conducting rescue operations round the clock and heavy rain has caused problems for locals and administration as well. The rescue team has brought nearly 60-70 people stranded in different regions.
The state government has asked people to remain in safe areas and exercise caution due to potential hazards due to heavy rains. The Chardham Yatra has also been temporarily suspended following the weather forecast in the Garhwal region.

The SP Dehradun, Lokjeet said that the police are in constant coordination with the local administration and evacuating residents from the riverbanks. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has issued orders for adminsitration to remain alert and vigilant amid the ongoing heavy rains.
