It’s been years since Baghpat of Uttar Pradesh became the unlikely epicentre of a battle. The event, which now famously known as the Baghpat chaat battle, unfolded when two rival shopkeepers of chaat stalls clashed over attracting the customers.
The battle also gave an ‘Einstein Chacha’. One man, who stood out among the crowd with orange coloured hair, was quickly dubbed as ‘Einstein Chacha’ by the internet, due to the resemblance of his hair to physicist Albert Einstein.
In 2021, a video went viral on social media in which shopkeepers of tow chaat stalls in Uttar Pradesh started to fought each other over customers. The video circulating on social media showed men armed with iron rods and sticks as they hit each other. Last year, the ‘Einstein Chacha’ give a trim to his long tresses, making him unrecognisable.
The video has resurfaced on internet again, as it turns three years.

Today marks the third anniversary of the Baghpat chaat battle. Talking to India Today TV, Einstein Chacha, whose real name is Harendra Singh, said that a lot of people ask him about his hairstyle. Singh, who is a devotee of Sai Baba, said that he usually cut his hair once every two years, despite trimming the hair a year before, Singh said public affection and demand made him grow it back. He said a lot of people come to him asking for selfie.
Singh also shed some light on how dispute over returning goods escalated into a full-blown clash involving families of the shopkeepers. Highlighting the intensity of the moment, Singh said the insults hurled at him provoked him to take actions. He said, “they started hitting my people. I tried to explain it to them but they did not listen. They started abusing me. I am a Pandit. I got angry and started hitting back”.
