Finnish President Warns West: Partner With Global South, India Or Risk Losing Out
Helsinki, Finland: Finland President Alexander Stubb on Tuesday issued a stern warning to the leaders in Europe and America, urging them to partner with the global south, especially India, to counter the rising challenges emanating from organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
While speaking at a press conference along with Lithuanian President Inga Ruginiene, the Finnish president stated that if Europe and America don’t have a more cooperative foreign policy towards the Global South and India, then “we will lose.”
He pointed out that the SCO meeting in China is a reminder to the west of what is at stake, while urging Western leaders for genuine partnerships with the Global South.
During the recent SCO summit in Beijing, China, leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed economic ties and security, signaling a shift in global dynamics in reshaping the world order. The event brought together leaders from ten member nations, including China, India, Russia, Iran, Pakistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
The ten member countries adopted the Tianjin Declaration, addressing security, economic and social challenges while promoting regional cooperation and a multipolar world order based on principles of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for cultural diversity, and pursuit of common development.
