How Can Mediation Succeed When One Party Assassinates The Negotiator?: Qatar

On Wednesday, Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani cast doubts on the success of any potential negotiation and mediation between Israel and Hamas following the assassination of Hamas’ political head, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran.

Apart from Qatar, both Egypt and the United States have been mediating talks between Israel and Hamas throughout the genocidal war.

The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs took to X and said, “Political assassinations & continued targeting of civilians in Gaza while talks continue leads us to ask, how can mediation succeed when one party assassinates the negotiator on the other side?”

Expressing concerns over the Palestinian population, who have been subjected to brutal assault for nearly a year, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani observed, “Peace needs serious partners & a global stance against the disregard for human life.” Israeli forces have killed over 40,000 Palestinians.
