Though India has voted in support of a free Palestinian state in the UN, the country has stood by Israel since Israel’s Gaza offensive that began on October 7, 2023. India has provided labor support and weapons to Israel, allegedly supporting Israel’s narrative of self-defense.

The latest visit by Prime Minister Modi to Israel appears to be a bolstering means in the bilateral relationship. PM Modi’s current visit is his second to Israel, following his 2017 trip, while Netanyahu’s planned visit to India was postponed due to domestic developments in Israel.

India’s defense sector has become deeply connected to Israel under Prime Minister Modi, with the sector considered as the backbone of the fresh bond. India’s purchase of Israel weapons has increased by 75 % between 2015 and 2019, with PM Modi relying Israel for the modernisation of the country’s military.

Along with importing, India has also become co-producer of Israeli weapons, facilitating Israel’s global reach in weapons’ manufacturing. The latest visit by Prime Minister Modi is expected to boost ties and partnership focusing on weapon development and technology transfer. The two countries are also exploring ways to jointly developing anti-allistic missile defense systems.
