Edited by Uzma Parveen

Asit Kumar Mal the sitting Trinamool Congress MP from Bolpur has been nominated by the party again to run for the 18th Lok Sabha elections. He had been part of the West Bengal legislative assembly from 1996 till 2016.

In his last tenure of the lower house, Mal registered 75 percent attendance in the house. His house performance remained satisfactory as he participated in a total of 22 debates and asked 5 questions. Recently, citing changes in the party’s district core committee, Asit Kumar Mal was removed from the position of core committee member.

However, his report card among the voters in the Bolpur constituency did not score well as in a report of ETV Bharat, West Bengal, as some people said that they never saw his face and he only came to visit during elections. On the other hand, Mal claimed that he had done a lot of work for the constituency, which included providing electricity, promoting agricultural activities, building roads in rural areas, etc. Notably, Santiniketan and Visva Bharati fall within the Bolpur Lok Sabha constituency. People say that he did not do anything for the development of both of them.
