Tata Harrier EV: Top 5 Features of the Upcoming Electric SUV Spotted Testing in India

India’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, Tata Motors, is preparing to launch its flagship model, the Harrier EV. Initially showcased as a concept at the Auto Expo 2023 and later at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, the Harrier EV is anticipated to debut in 2025. This electric SUV is set to compete with the Mahindra XUV e8 and the Hyundai Creta EV. Here are the top five things to know about the upcoming Tata Harrier EV.

  1. Drivetrain

The recent spy images of the Harrier EV test mule reveal that the electric motor is mounted on the rear axle. Unlike its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, the Harrier EV will be based on Tata Motors’ new EV architecture—acti.EV. This versatile platform will support an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version, the first AWD model in Tata Motors’ portfolio. The AWD variant will feature twin electric motors, one on each axle, providing enhanced traction and performance. Additionally, the Harrier EV will come with an independent rear suspension, improving ride quality and handling compared to the ICE version.

  1. Range

Although Tata Motors has not yet disclosed the exact specifications of the Harrier EV’s powertrain, it is expected to offer a driving range of around 500 km on a single charge. Similar to the Nexon EV, the Harrier EV is likely to incorporate advanced features such as Vehicle-2-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-2-Vehicle (V2V) technologies. V2L allows the EV to charge gadgets and power household utilities, making it ideal for camping trips. V2V enables the Harrier EV to charge another EV, adding to its versatility and practicality.

  1. Exterior

The Harrier EV will adopt Tata Motors’ new EV design language, first introduced with the Nexon EV in 2023. The front fascia will feature a completely closed design with no air dams, reflecting its all-electric nature. The SUV will retain the split headlight setup with connected front lights, similar to its ICE version. Smart welcome and goodbye lights, which double as charging indicators, are also expected. The Harrier EV will boast all-LED lighting, including turning lamps. While the side profile will remain largely unchanged, it will sport new alloy wheels, and the rear could feature connected lamps for a refreshed look.

  1. Interior

The cabin layout of the Harrier EV is expected to mirror that of the ICE version, offering a luxurious and tech-savvy environment. Key features include a 12.3-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless 45W C-Type charger, a 10-speaker JBL audio system, and Alexa Car2Home connectivity. Other premium features include a gesture control tailgate, a six-way powered driver’s seat with memory function, front ventilated seats, a four-way powered front passenger seat, dual-zone climate control, an air purifier, rear door sunshades, a panoramic sunroof, and a front armrest with cool storage.

  1. Features

Building on the feature set of the ICE Harrier, the EV variant is expected to come equipped with seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, emergency assistance, an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Additionally, the Harrier EV will likely include a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, offering features such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, forward and rear collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, and more, totalling eleven ADAS features.

The Tata Harrier EV is set to be a significant addition to Tata Motors’ EV lineup, offering advanced drivetrain options, impressive range, and a host of modern features and technologies. As Tata Motors continues to innovate and expand its EV offerings, the Harrier EV is set to make a strong impact in the Indian electric SUV market.
