On May 5, 2024, Jay Jalaram School in Godhra Gujarat came into the news when a NEET exam-related scam resurfaced. In the alleged case, the school teacher Tushar Bhatt was arrested from the center with Rs 7 lakh cash and a list of 27 candidates. During the police interrogation, accused Tushar Bhatt accepted to receive 10 lakh rupees from each candidate.
The alleged Godhra NEET scam was unearthed upon the district collector’s receiving the information and taking prompt action into the matter. Further investigation has revealed the involvement of Jay Jalaram School principal and a Vododra-based consultant Prashuram Roy in the NEET exam case in Godhra, Gujarat. So far, the police authorities have seized a total of Rs 2.3 crore and several blank cheques from the people involved.

As per the police reports, nearly 27 students who were involved in the case were local and some came from other states including Maharashtra and Odisha. According to the plan, these candidates were supposed to fill the OMR entries and only those questions that they were sure about, while the rest of the OMR was to be filled by the accused Tushar Bhatt after the exam was over using the answer keys released by the coaching institutes.
Reportedly, a scam of such a level was possible to plan and execute as the local district administration usually does not play any significant role in such exams. The entire examination process is held under the supervision of the district coordinator of the exam who was allegedly the mastermind behind the case in Godhra.
Usually, the entire exam procedure at every stage is conducted and managed by private agencies and the absence of any government agency in the entire exam provides them a window to escape the system, India TV reported.
Notably, when the result was released only 2 candidates out of the 27 candidates whose names were found in the list recovered from Tushar Bhatt were successful to qualify for the exam. The rest of the candidates could get marks in double digits only, the media reports said.
However, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has been denying any such cases of alleged irregularities and scams in the NEET UG – 2024 exam. Since the result was announced on June 4, 2024, several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court and nationwide protest are goingon. The Central government has reassured candidates to protect their interest.
