According to NDTV’s sources, the inquiry is in its “final stages,” and the CBI is expected to file charges soon. The news agency also stated that the medical report, which includes the accused’s DNA, has been sent to experts at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Following the final opinion of the experts’, the agency will conclude their inquiry.
After recording more than 100 statements and conducting 10 polygraph tests, the CBI found no reason to believe more than one individual was involved in the August 9 crime that triggered a series of widespread protests across the country, reported NDTV.
Civil volunteer Sanjay Roy was seen entering the building around the estimated time of the crime in CCTV. His Bluetooth headphones were also found near the crime scene. Nearly a week after the crime, the Calcutta High Court transferred the case to the CBI.

Meanwhile, the former principal of RG Kar, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, was arrested on Monday over alleged financial irregularities during his tenure. Ghosh, who resigned after the incident surfaced on “moral grounds” but was appointed as the head of another state-run hospital within hours, was accused by a former hospital employee of selling unclaimed bodies, trafficking in biomedical waste, and passing tenders against the commission paid by medicine suppliers.
Ghosh has been suspended by the Bengal government and the state doctor’s body. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at Ghosh’s residence on Friday over corruption charges.
Three others, including a security guard, have been arrested.
The family members of the deceased doctor alleged that the police tried to suppress the case by cremating her body swiftly. The doctor’s father alleged that the Kolkata police also tried to bribe them with money.
The West Bengal assembly Tuesday unanimously passed the anti-rape “Aparajita” bill, introduced by the Mamata Banerjee government, making Bengal the first state to amend central laws addressing rape, gang-rape, and sexual crimes against children.
