Tamil Nadu Reeling Under Extreme Heat; Chennai Experiencing Hottest Year
Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Several Indian cities have been crippled by extreme hot weather as the country experiences hotter days each year. Chennai sweltered under peak summer conditions on Tuesday, recording its hottest day of the year so far.
In Tamil Nadi, Vellore recorded a scorching 41.9°C, emerging as the hottest place in the state, while Karr Paramathi logged 40.5°C. Several other locations, including Erode (39.2°C), Madurai Airport (39.4°C), and Tiruchy (39.3°C), also reported above-normal maximum temperatures.

As per the weather experts, the reason for current situation is attributed to weak wind pattern and prevailing humid air. Across the southern states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra, the people in both urban and rural areas are bearing the brunt of the heat.
The maximum temperatures were generally 2-3°C above normal at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, though coastal areas remained closer to seasonal averages, as per the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).

Although there are isolated rainfall over the Western Ghats and adjoining districts in Tamil Nadu, most parts remained dry across the state. The rising trend of heatwave is likely to continue in the days and years to come.
