Congress on Thursday came in support of Sanjay Singh and backed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) who are facing raids and interrogation by the domestic law and economic enforcement agency.

Shortly after a day the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested the AAP Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjay Singh, Congress came out in support condemning BJP’s ‘’Vendetta politics’’. AAP is an ally in the newly formed opposition bloc INDIA in which Congress is a major part.

Breaking silence, K C Venugopal, MP and General Secretary of Indian National Congress at the centre, accused BJP as they are taking their blood fued political startegies to another level by Mr Singh’s arrest. Mr Venugopal expressed his parties solidarity with co-MP Mr Singh and vehemently rejected the Union government’s method of using the central law enforcement agencies to ‘’settle political scores’’.

Mr Venugopal on Thursday took the response to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle and said that, ‘’democratic principles of a fair trial and authorities acting within the boundaries of the Constitution are non-negotiable’’. ‘’We cannot become those we oppose’’, he added.

ED arrested Delhi MP and the national spokesperson of AAP, Sanjay Singh on Wednesday, October 5, in a money laundering case linked to the investigation into the Delhi liquor policy. According to report, the AAP leader was named by Dinesh Arora, a businessman an accused in the case who later turned ‘approver’.

AAP in return lashed out against the BJP, the ruling party at the centre, as the raid and arrest were mere political vendetta to win the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday reacted that the raids are just desperate attempts of BJP, who are certain of their defeat in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

AAP national spokesperson Reena Gupta responded the incident as it is the BJP pace to curtail Mr Singh’s brave expressions of the reported connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the business conglomerate Gautam Adani.

KC Venugopal in his tweet also brought up the case of Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira who was arrested last month. Mr Khaira is the leader of opposition in Punjab Legislative Assembly and an MLA from the Bholath constituency as his third term. He was arrested in connection with a 2015 drugs case.

‘’We also oppose the arrests of All India Kisan Sabha Chairperson Sh. @SukhpalKhaira ji and former Punjab Dty. CM Sh. OP Soni ji by the Punjab police’’, wrote Mr Venugopal on X.
